Our Client is a global pharmaceutical company.
Position goal:
As a global Category Manager you set and execute category strategies enabling an efficient utilization of vendors across all category purchases. Travel is a major global category requiring an experienced profile to set the right direction across the many strategic sourcing opportunities lying ahead. It is likewise a category with considerable executive management attention requiring strong business partnering skills and an ability to implement change in a political category impacting our Client’s employees broadly. This is a category which they expect to be defined by globalization/ regionalization, consolidation and innovation in the coming years and the global Category Manager is a major driver in achieving these ambitions. Procurement to a large degree owns the travel category and the key contracts within, requiring a substantial amount of vendor and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities:
In this newly set global role you will be mostly responsible for:
- executing on global, regional and local category and sub-category strategies closely aligned to overall Procurement strategy and key stakeholder priorities.
- facilitating professional sourcing processes from point of need identification through to contract signing and efficient implementation.
- managing travel policies and align with their travel reference groups and Executive Management on travel and fleet strategies
- managing major contracts with a focus on travel agencies, car fleet, airlines, hotels and ground transportation
- prioritizing and coordinating activities between external Travel Manager and the category team
- managing and resolving travel related escalations
- enabling strategic alignment across sourcing activities by understanding priorities and providing market/sourcing knowledge to challenge existing setups and procedures, in order to build optimized supplier setups.
- building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships enabling category progress and compliance
- leading and/or participating in internal cross-category improvement projects and/or training initiatives to develop individuals and/or the function overall.
Qualifications:
- a Master Degree from a Business School or University, preferably certification demonstrating completed training within core disciplines: category management, project management, advanced negotiations
- category management experience derived from several years of working as a regional or global category manager/owner within professional services and/or consultancy
- extensive knowledge of best-practice category management (travel or car fleet) and has a proven track record of defined and executed category strategy
- regional/global stakeholder management experience established through extensive and successful collaboration with senior stakeholders across Europe/globally
- ability to exemplify collaboration skills and cultural aptitude through strategic sourcing projects and/or category opportunities managed and successfully completed in close collaboration with international senior stakeholders
- business partnering skills built on a profound understanding of line of business priorities within own subcategories
- extensive experience negotiating commercial and legal terms and conditions and fronting complex negotiations
- considerable experience and knowledge of working with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Return on Investment (ROI) and identifying levers beyond monetary savings
- good understanding of standard legal clauses and associated risks
- experienced project manager with a strong track record of successfully completed strategic sourcing projects according to category management methodology delivering strong outcomes
- experience working in a matrix team efficiently delegating tasks and coordinating priorities between team members
- a category level understanding of internal interdependencies (e.g. legal, Finance, QA) impacting speed and quality of project execution and outcome. An expert ability to navigate these interdependencies efficiently
- collaborative and strategic mindset
